// PART B · PRIVACY POLICY

Your Data on Brand.Brief

This privacy policy explains what personal data we process on brandbrief.eu, on what legal basis, who receives it, how long we keep it, and what your rights are under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

We deliberately keep data processing minimal. Site analytics are first-party and stay in your browser. The only place we collect identifying personal data is the sign-on form — and only with your active consent.

// B · 01

Website Analytics

We use a privacy-first, first-party analytics setup. No Google Analytics, no advertising trackers, no third-party cookies.

What we collect

Data point Purpose
Page views Understand which pages are read
Device type Optimise mobile/tablet/desktop layout
Country code Measure geographic reach of the campaign
Timestamp Track when visits occur

What we do not collect for analytics

  • IP addresses (used once for country lookup, then discarded)
  • Names, e-mails or any personal identifiers
  • Browsing history outside brandbrief.eu
  • Tracking cookies or third-party advertising IDs

Storage & retention

Analytics data is stored in your browser's localStorage and auto-deletes after 30 days. Nothing is written to a central analytics server.

Country lookup

To determine your country, we send a single request per visit to ip-api.com. Only the country code is stored; the IP address is discarded. The lookup is cached for 24 hours to minimise calls.

Legal basis

Legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) — understanding campaign reach. The processing is minimal and transparent, with no profiling or cross-site tracking.

Sign-On & Newsletter

If you sign on as a supporter or subscribe to the Brand.Brief newsletter, we process the data you submit (such as name, organisation, e-mail and country) to register your support and — only if you tick the corresponding consent — to send you brand.brief and creativefed newsletter updates.

How we handle it

  • Newsletter system: The sign-on form sends your data to our own Listmonk instance, self-hosted in the European Union (Hetzner, Germany). The list uses double opt-in: you will receive a confirmation e-mail and only then become an active subscriber.
  • Mail delivery: Confirmation and newsletter e-mails are dispatched via Brevo (Sendinblue SA, Paris, France) as our SMTP provider. Brevo processes e-mail addresses solely for delivery.
  • Public supporters list: If you tick the “publish my name and organisation” box, your name, organisation and country may appear on the public supporters list at brandbrief.eu. You can withdraw this at any time by writing to brand.brief@creativefed.eu.

Legal basis

Consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)) — given actively via the consent checkboxes in the sign-on form. You can withdraw consent at any time; withdrawal does not affect processing carried out before withdrawal.

Retention

We keep your sign-on data for as long as the Brand.Brief campaign is active, or until you ask us to delete it — whichever comes first. Newsletter subscribers can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every e-mail, which removes them from the active list immediately.

// B · 03

Cookies

Brand.Brief does not set tracking cookies. We use only the browser's localStorage to remember small technical settings (such as your country lookup result, cached for 24 hours, and analytics counters that auto-delete after 30 days).

You can clear localStorage at any time through your browser settings.

Your Rights Under GDPR

Under the EU GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectify — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erase — ask us to delete your data (“right to be forgotten”).
  • Restrict — limit how we process your data.
  • Object — object to processing based on legitimate interest.
  • Data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent — at any time, without affecting prior lawful processing.
  • Lodge a complaint — with a supervisory authority, in particular the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl) or the authority in your country of residence.

To exercise any of these rights, write to GDPR@ecbnetwork.eu or brand.brief@creativefed.eu. We respond within one month, as required by Art. 12(3) GDPR.

International Transfers & Updates

International data transfer

Our analytics data is stored locally in your browser. Sign-on and newsletter data stay within the European Union (Listmonk in Germany, Brevo in France). The only outbound request to a non-EU service is the country lookup at ip-api.com (operated from outside the EU), which receives an IP address but no identifying personal data.

Updates to this policy

We may update this legal notice and privacy policy from time to time. Material changes will be flagged at the top of this page and dated. Your continued use of brandbrief.eu after an update constitutes acknowledgement of the updated policy.
